Spring, a Time to Renew Your New Year’s Promises

March 19, 2026

January Had Its Chance

I know that January is long past. New Year’s Resolutions made on January 1st are long forgotten or slowly being whittled down to the nub. Should you surrender until next year? Never! Any promises made in the dead of winter are, by their nature, hard to keep under the unrelenting dreariness of snow, slush and road salt. If you can do anything other than stay huddled under a layer of blankets, that is a win.

Spring Is Your Mulligan

March, however, is technically close enough to January to still give you time to carry out those promises made. The rather obnoxious birds making a racket outside my window are a good reminder that spring is around the corner. I also haven’t missed the rather obvious patches of bare earth showing up all over the place. Better times are upon us! Go pull those New Year’s promises from the trash can and promise yourself that you will take advantage of all the good feelings that come with surviving another winter.

Go Ahead – Try Again

So, ditch those winter blahs (and failed, I mean, delayed resolutions) and replace them with spring fever, the one time of year you, and even your resolutions, get a do-over! I’d say makeover, but we all know spring also brings mud and rain, so I’m going for something a little more realistic.

Turn that frown upside down and open the window. Let the fresh air waft through the house. Think of doing something good for yourself.

Start Where You Are

Finances a mess? Sit down and think of some creative solutions. Your house too small (or crowded – kids, am I right!)? YouTube has some great videos about maximizing space. Got a bit of flab (guilty – beyond a reasonable doubt)? Time to hit the walking trail and not the bag of potato chips. And so on and so forth.

A Little Progress Is Still Progress

And if you don’t achieve your goals – so what. Better a bit in the right direction than none at all. Trust me, I have so many books I’ve promised to read which are in various stages of completion. One book in particular I started a decade ago…which means I am going to have to start from the beginning again. I promised to clean out my closet for years and last fall I actually did it – felt like a million bucks.

Don’t Write the Year Off Yet

Tap into Spring’s vibe and get back on those New Year’s promises to make your life a bit better. There’s definitely still time!
